Face serums? Should I be using one?

Serums are so versatile and effective – everyone should have a try!

A serum is a skincare product that you apply to your face after cleansing but before moisturizing. Serums contain high concentrations of active ingredients, thus making them perfect for targeting specific skincare concerns, such as dehydration, wrinkles, pore-size reduction, daily exposure to pollution.

Serums contain moisturizing ingredients but are not moisturizers in the traditional sense as their very small molecules penetrate deeper into the skin than face lotions or creams, which are developed to create a barrier on top of the skin to keep moisture – and the potent ingredients in your serum – from escaping.

Serums feel light, velvety and smoothing to the touch, and their ability to sink right in leaves your skin feeling immediately more refreshed and radiant.

It couldn’t be simpler to introduce a serum into your skincare routine. Here is how. After cleansing to ensure your skin is clear of all make-up and the day’s exposure to dirt and pollution, tone your skin to bring it back to its natural pH level; this is the time to enhance your routine with a refreshing, skin-prepping essence too if you are using one. Now apply the serum you have chosen to answer your personal skincare needs. Seal it in with a moisturizer. If your favorite moisturizer doesn’t include an SPF, it is a good idea to apply one on top to protect your fresh-feeling, rejuvenated skin from the aging effects of UV. At night, follow the same routine but maybe with a different choice of serum – such as one with wrinkle-smoothing properties – followed by a night-orientated moisturizer.

Remember: Serums are super potent, so more is not always better. A little goes a long way.

Everyone can benefit from introducing their skin to a suitable serum:

Oily, acne-prone skin

Choose an oil-free serum that won’t clog your pores. Look for glycolic acid to clarify, unclog pores and reduce blackheads; antioxidants to reduce inflammation; zinc to soothe irritation and help regulate oil production; salicylic acid to unclog pores. Our Force Vitale Aqua-Pure Clarifying Serum would be a perfect choice to achieve clearer skin.

Dull 30+ skin

Combat the appearance of fine dehydration lines and prevent the first signs of aging with a serum that includes zinc, copper and magnesium to help stimulate cellular metabolism; antioxidants like rice extract or pomegranate, both with strong anti-free radical properties help to reduce oxidative stress on a cellular level (DNA protection) and moisture-boosting hyaluronic acid. Opt for Force Vitale Aqua-Vitale Serum 24 if you prefer rich velvety texture and Force Vitale Aqua-Vitale Gel-Serum for a light gel-like texture.

Mature skin

Look for collagen and collagen-boosting ingredients to increase radiance and plump up the appearance of skin; red algae and botanical tensors for their skin-tightening properties; hyaluronic acid for its immediate and long-term filling effect. Our Cell Shock 360º Anti-Wrinkle Serum Triple Collagen Complex provides a visible line-filling effect by infusing dry skin with intense moisture and lasting resilience.

Pollution-affected skin

Hydrators like ceramides, amino acids and essential fatty acids strengthen the skin’s barrier to help build strong cell membranes, offering protection by replenishing naturally occurring lipids, thus improving moisture retention and protecting skin from the environment; Moringa seeds shield skin from environmental pollution; Nasturtium stem extract promotes the role of cytoglobin as an oxygen carrier, facilitating the intercellular exchange of toxins. Our Cell Shock Face Lifting Complex II is clinically proven to tackle “urban stress”, enhancing skin brightness and clarity.

“I am definitely in a #TeamSerum myself”

Health and lifestyle blogger Julianna from JulieJuliet.com has become a great fan of serums. In a recent blog she said “I am definitely in a #TeamSerum myself since I have seen instant amazing results once I started using them. And I can swear on my WiFi connection that once you have found your ideal skincare routine, which includes that perfect serum, you will never go back to just ‘Ok’ skincare routine».

A serum is made from small molecules which can go directly into your skin and are absorbed faster delivering active ingredients directly to it. Thanks to the highest concentration of active ingredients, such as antioxidants and peptides, serums are very target-oriented. They work on specific concerns such as wrinkles, anti-aging, pigmentation. Just imagine, moisturisers usually contain up to 10% of active ingredients, while serums contain up to 70%. Impressive!”
