7 Winter Skincare Tips You Should Know with Christine Legrand

Temperatures are dropping and we're starting to get in the fall-winter mood! This cocooning effect is also much needed by the skin. So how can we give our skin a so-called winter coat? How can we best adapt our skin to the coming winter season?

Our new International Training Manager Christine Legrand has seven tips for taking care of your winter skin. Read on!

Protecting Your Skin's Barrier

This skin is constantly challenged by external factors; in winter wind, cold and heat would be the major aggressors to the skin. And if we add pollution to the mix, make-up, and daily cleansing, the skin's barrier function really has a hard time.

Having said that, at Swissline we understand that it's important to take care of this basic but nonetheless important function of our skin if we want to look at our best this winter, but also more generally if we want to avoid premature aging of the skin.

Step 1: Serum

The first step would be to apply a serum, ideally one that will attract moisture with ingredients like hyaluronic acid.

This is an amazing way to help skin hold on to hydration without having to rely on heavy creams. Our Source Booster is packed with hyaluronic acid of both low and high molecular weight so that they act on the surface (high molecular weight) but can also penetrate the skin (low molecular weight). You can also opt for a serum containing ceramides as they are a critical element of the natural moisture barrier of the skin and we produce less as we age. Naturally present in the epidermis, they have an amazing capacity to limit moisture loss and protect against damage and environmental stressors.

It’s easy to use: just mix a few drops with your usual serum or cream.

Serums for Mature Skin

Cell Shock 360 Anti-Wrinkle Serum: will provide a line filling effect by infusing the skin with intense moisture and a triple collagen complex that will increase the skin’s own collagen production (with soluble collagen), strengthen (with boosting peptide and botanical extract), and protect it.

Cell Shock 360 Anti-Wrinkle Eye Serum: is charged with wrinkle-filling, smoothing and anti-dark circle ingredients that work together to recreate a perfect eye zone. It is a serum so it is meant to be used under your usual eye cream.

Step 2: Face Cream

Depending on your skin type, you might want to choose slightly richer textures for the winter months. You should apply it morning and evening every day: in the morning to protect and in the evening to regenerate.

You can use a day and a night cream or use the same cream for both. Our Cell Shock Luxe-Lift Rich Cream is a fantastic moisturizer for colder, dryer weather.

Step 3: Eye Zone

Take extra care of your eyes as the skin here is thinner and has little to no oil glands to protect itself. Use serums and eye contour that soothe and protect the skin. You can also use eye masks to soothe and care for the eye contour.

Swissline offers a product called Cellular Eye Mask Complex that works wonders on the devitalized and tired eye contour. It will help to regenerate, soothe, and calm the eye area while providing a lifting effect and working on dark circles and puffiness. A must-have!

Step 4: Skin Cleansing

To avoid disturbing the NMF, we should limit the face cleansing to only once per day, in the evening. In winter, we should favor the use of mild products like cleansing milk, cream or oil, respecting our skin type of course; together with a gentle toner. Pro Tip: Avoid using products with exfoliating particles and favor those that have an enzymatic action in order to avoid sensitizing the skin further.

Step 5: Masks

This is the cocooning moment for your skin! And let's be honest, one of the more enjoyable skincare rituals.

In winter the skin is dehydrated and irritated because the humidity level in the air decreases. You should ideally do a mask every week or more if you feel that your skin “asks” for it.

How to know when it’s needed? It's easy, if you experience discomfort throughout the day or more than usual after cleansing your skin, you need to apply a mask. Explore Swissline's face masks.

Step 6: Don't forget the sunscreen!

Sun exposure, at any time of the year, can lead to pigmentation issues, wrinkles, loss of collagen, and skin cancer. Even though the UVB rays are stronger in the summer, they don’t disappear in the winter.

Wearing an SPF every day will allow scars and hyperpigmentation the chance to heal and lighten. Swissline understood that and our sunscreens are the only two products that aren’t made in Switzerland but in Japan! You will feel the difference!

Step 7: Last but not least, Hand Cream

Usually, this is the part of our body that gives away our age.

We should really take extra care of our hands during winter and even more so at the moment with all the alcohol-rich sanitizers that we are using more frequently due to Covid-19. Apply a good moisturizer every time you wash your hands or at least in the evening before going to bed.

At Swissline, our Make Peace Hand Balm will be your friend! It has a gel balm texture and works as a second skin.
